Gudmar Panchang, botanically known as Gymnema Sylvestre, is a well-known Ayurvedic herb traditionally referred to as Gudmar, Gurmar, or Madhunashini (destroyer of sweetness). In English literature, it is commonly called Gymnema. The term Panchang denotes the use of the entire plant, including leaves, stem, flowers, and roots, which are collectively used for medicinal purposes.
In Ayurveda, Gudmar Panchang is described as having Tikta (bitter) and Kashaya (astringent) rasa, with Ushna (heating) virya, making it especially effective in balancing Kapha and Pitta doshas. It is traditionally used to support healthy blood sugar levels, metabolism regulation, digestive strength, and detoxification.
Gudmar Whole Plant is commonly processed into Churna (powder), Kwath (decoction), and classical Ayurvedic formulations, either alone or in combination with other herbs. As per Ayurvedic knowledge, usage and dosage depend on formulation type and practitioner guidance. Gudmar Panchang is widely valued in metabolic health formulations and wellness preparations.
