Senna Pods, botanically identified as Cassia Angustifolia, are commonly known as Swarnapatri Phala, Sana Makki Phalli, and Indian Senna Pods in Ayurvedic and traditional herbal systems. The mature dried pods (fruit) are carefully collected and sun-dried to preserve their natural active compounds.
In Ayurveda, Senna Pods are described with Tikta (bitter) and Kashaya (astringent) rasa, Ushna virya, and Laghu–Ruksha guna, making them supportive in managing Kapha and Vata imbalance when used appropriately. Classical Ayurvedic texts reference Senna pods for their role in supporting regular bowel movement and digestive cleansing processes.
Traditionally, Senna Pods are processed into Churna and Kwath, or used as an ingredient in compound formulations. Ayurvedic practice emphasizes controlled dosage, short-term usage, and professional guidance, aligning with traditional detoxification and digestive support protocols.
